Seventy - Fun And Fear With Scary Halloween Costumes

By Alexander Logan

At some point scary Halloween costumes can start to look alike. Bloodied weapons of evil personas and creepy disguises of mad scientists start to blend together even with frightening makeup. To create a new and exciting scary character requires a large dose of creativity on your part.

The hard part of creating a new frightening character is deciding what that basic concept will be. Will it be male or female? How will it talk and walk? Why will it be frightening or angry or is it just a character that is mindless evil? Those with limited imaginations will have a problem creating a new scary Halloween costume but once you find your concept it gets easier.

When it comes to scary Halloween costumes, there are no real rules or solid components each one must have. This allows for an unlimited amount of creative input, however it also leaves some people at a standstill. Where do you begin? Well make it simple, and start with what you know.

Serial killer novels, chainsaw movies, and other stories and images that send chills up your own backbone are good starting points for a new and truly scary Halloween costume. Watch some movies, read some Edgar Allen Poe or Stephen King. Watch Jack Nicholson's transformation in The Shining. The normal becoming abnormal is a good place to start.

Keep in mind, an idea may not come to you right away. This process can take time. Every time you feel the gentle budding of inspiration, grab a pencil and paper and jot the idea down, even if it seems unreasonable or silly. You never know how valuable these notes can be later on, when a second concept may complete one you already came up with, or compliment it to form a unique design.

Both the internet and the local library are good research sources for you. Read about abandoned towns or disturbing and unexplained hauntings. Anything that frightens you or makes you feel shivery will probably have the same effect on others.

Copying another fright costume is usually not recommended as familiarity with a character reduces the fear factor of that persona. A vampire just another vampire - unless you can think of a twist on the idea. One mad scientist is like another, unless perhaps he is a wild geneticist cloning everything in sight.

Some of the same costumes meant to have the fright factor will be seen every Halloween. We have the standard vampire, the ghost, the evil witch, the slasher or chainsaw killer, and always there is our worst nightmare....Freddie. Whether supernatural terror or more realistic axe murdered or serial killer this might be research best conducted during daylight hours.

Ideas for scary Halloween costumes are out there, if you're willing to look. There is plenty of real life and fictional people, places and stories that can provide inspiration. Combine ideas for even more options, such as a serial killer turned vampire, or an evil spirit out for revenge. Remember to be patient, eventually an idea that has never been done before will come! Rather than settle for the canned scary Halloween costumes available each year, do something unique and make or modify your own! Edited by Svetchey Sanorols
